ABSTRACT

There is extensive literature on organizational learning and on machine learning but

virtually no connection between the two. There are several reasons for this. First, the

disciplinary foundations of the two areas are different. But perhaps more importantly, the

lack of a connection is due to the fact that until recently, information technologies have

played a predominantly transaction processing role. The primary purpose of information

technologies has been to support accounting and audit, as opposed to facilitating core

business processes such as customer-supplier interactions, supply chain management, and

so on. This situation has changed rapidly in the last few years with the maturation of

information technologies and their increasing importance as enablers of business

processes.
