ABSTRACT
Anne had already moved into creating collaborative read-alouds using a range of text genres when she started this new inquiry. Here, she focuses on her study of first-grade students’ initiations of a new genre-ABC or alphabet books. Her intent was to see how her reading of these books would foster her students’ phonemic awareness, but as she shows here, they learned this and much more.
