ABSTRACT

Sampling distributions are frequency distributions of a statistic, which are generated to make an inference between the sample statistic and its corresponding population parameter. The average (mean) statistical value in the sampling distribution is the expected value of the population parameter. The variance of the sampling distribution is used to calculate the standard error of the statistic. The standard error of the statistic is a function of sample size and is used to calculate confidence intervals around the sample statistic, which provides the basis for testing statistical hypotheses.
