ABSTRACT
Self-disclosure and close relationships do not necessarily develop over time in a parallel, incremental, and continuous fashion. People may wish to believe so and therefore may report a sequential progression on questionnaire surveys when they reconstruct their relationship from memory. However, research done with couples over time indicates that temporal patterns are, in fact, flexible and varied.
