Introduction

When the school day ends, 7-year-old Meiguei Chen takes the school bus and heads to the children’s room of her town’s public library, where she remains until her mother picks her up 3 hours later. Although the librarians are aware of Meiguei’s presence and unofficially keep an eye on her, they have no formal responsibility for her. She spends most of her time at the library reading.
