Concept mapping involves diagramming how concepts are thought to be related to each other. The concept map in the bulletin board above was devised by preservice teachers to illustrate the connections among the types of reasoning discussed in chapter 2. (How concept maps can be used at the elementary level is discussed further in Unit 3 • 3 of this chapter.)
