ABSTRACT

In this book, the fact-gathering process means three things: It means coming to grips with the theory (i.e., knowledge) about language and education questions that are relevant to designing language policies in schools; it means thinking seriously about the policymaking process at school level and coming to see it as a vehicle for improving the service to children that an individual school offers; and it means taking steps to understand the unique language situation that prevails in a school and the language needs of its students.
