ABSTRACT

The third observation concerns the tremendous disparity between how frequently intervention in divorce is discussed in the applied literature (in psychology, law, and other fields) and how infrequently divorce interventions are subjected to methodologically sophisticated studies, particularly randomized trials. For example, a Psychlit search conducted for this chapter revealed over 500 articles and chapters published with the keywords divorce and therapy or treatment. As reviewed here and elsewhere (Emery, 1998; Grych & Fincham, 1992; Lee, Picard, 8c Blain, 1994), few of these published accounts are empirical reports; only a handful are randomized trials.
