ABSTRACT
Schema theorists talk of schemata for rooms, stories, restaurants, birthday parties, and many other high-level concepts. In our parallel distributed processing models, units do not tend to represent such complex concepts…. If we are to do justice to the concept of the schema, we are going to have to look beyond the individual unit. We are going to have to look for schemata as properties of entire networks rather than single units or small circuits.
