Many physiological factors govern the adequate development of the central nervous system. Those critical factors which limit this process may determine the level of cerebral functioning achieved. The high requirement of cerebral tissue for glucose and oxygen make it likely that one such limiting parameter may be the rate at which nutrients are supplied to the brain by the vascular system … maintenace of optimal cerebral vascular supply may be dependent on a patterned sensory input to the brain.
