What a great feeling. After you complete such a mammoth task, it would be wonderful if

the relief and pride could last for a while. However, the pleasure is often quickly replaced

with a new kind of uneasiness. You might start mulling and ruminating: “Do they like

me? How many other students applied? How many of them are better than I am? What is

the selection committee doing right now? If they moved fast, they could have made their

decisions already. Maybe I should call and ask. Or, maybe I could have Dad do it. He

sounds authoritative. Maybe…”

The Wrong Reasons to Make Contact

You do not control the situation, which means that impulsive or inappropriate thoughts

may surface. You must avoid doing things that apprehensive applicants frequently do at

this point and, without realizing it, thereby reduce their chances for acceptance.
