ABSTRACT

The purpose of this case study is to get you to think about the impact of race, ethnicity, culture, and socio-economic status on schools, with particular emphasis on affirmative action hiring. Ayoung African-American woman, Cassie Hudgkins, has come to Edge City to interview for a position as a middle school English teacher. Through her eyes you will get what are essentially two different pictures of the same city. You will meet the principals of the high school and the middle school and one of the teachers.
