ABSTRACT
It may seem strange to discuss accidental death and suicide in the same chapter, but many
so-called accidents are the results of self-destructive motives. In addition, many suicides
are accidental, in the sense that they are the results of risky or careless behavior prompted
by thrill-seeking, exhibitionism, escapism, or other motives rather than a desire to die.
