ABSTRACT

As with most concepts in mathematics, manipulatives play an important role in the developmental process of geometry. Pattern blocks or attribute blocks, which come in several shapes and colors, provide a wonderful opportunity for understanding geometric shapes. When working with geometric shapes, it is important for children to learn the characteristics of each shape. Geometry and problem solving make a great pair. Tangrams, another useful geometry manipulative, consist of different sized isosceles triangles, a parallelogram, and a square. The Tangram shapes are used to construct specified figures, which might be a mathematical shape, an animal, or even a house. Integrating technology into the classroom has made discovering mathematics a reality for all students. Through the elementary school years and beyond, children deal with shapes. Wire frames, cutouts, geoboards, tangrams, attribute blocks, and logic blocks all have shapes as a part of their existence.
