ABSTRACT

Violent parents tend to have violent children (Eron, 1987; Robins, 1966). This relationship holds for female offspring as well as for males (e.g., Robins, West, & Herjanic, 1975) and is independent of socioeconomic status (Farrington, 1978), neighborhood (S. Glueck & E. T. Glueck, 1968), and intelligence (Farrington, 1978; S. Glueck & E. T. Glueck, 1968). It is thus clear that violence is transmitted intergenerationally.
