ABSTRACT
In Britain, 1972, violence certainly seemed to be on the rise. The Troubles had finally exploded in Northern Ireland, the IRA’s first mainland bombing had taken place, the Conservative government was involved in increasing conflict with the Trade Unions, football hooliganism was rampant, and police statistics showed rises in criminal activity. Into this atmosphere was pitched another element: film violence.
