ABSTRACT

This chapter begins, like the last, with a plausible scenario. You return home having just watched your favourite football team scrape by with a victory against their opponents; a reasonable game, largely unmemorable save for a controversial refereeing decision. Indeed, you have forgotten all about it as you walk through the door and head for the fridge to pour yourself a drink, mind focused on your plans for this evening. Your partner appears in the room and you prepare to relay the score and a pat comment about it being a run-of-the-mill victory. But before you can open your mouth s/he remarks: “I heard all about the match!”
