ABSTRACT

The "dynamic organization" is a phenomenon often characterized as arising out of external pressures such as market complexity, rapid technological change, and the globalization of markets. In this new context, organizations are creating novel partnerships with other organizations and individuals. Many of these relationships vary in significant ways from more traditional alliances. Frequently, such relationships are project-based, temporary, and idiosyncratic. And they often are relationships among individuals, groups, or organizations that are not located in the same building, organization, or even continent (Dess, Rasheed, McLaughlin, & Priem, 1995; Grenier & Metes, 1995). Virtual teams are a new type oftask-performing group that is emerging in the time of the dynamic organization.
