ABSTRACT

On an equal footing with structural variables and content themes, test behaviors provide a third source of data on which to base Rorschach interpretations. As people go about the process of reporting what the inkblots might be, their basic behavioral style and interpersonal orientation influence many aspects of how they conduct themselves during the examination. In addition, respondents’ current attitudinal and emotional state at the time of the examination typically have an impact on their manner of dealing with the testing situation. Accordingly, examiners can enrich their Rorschach assessments by utilizing respondents’ test behaviors along with the structure and content of their responses as bases for formulating hypotheses about their personality functioning.
