ABSTRACT

We have discussed setting objectives for the output state. These objectives reflect our expectations for what students should be able to do when they complete any learning experience. If our job is helping the learner to learn, the learning environment that we create will be a student-centered one in which the student is responsible for his or her own learning. To carry out our job, we must find out what kind of help the learner needs to achieve the output state goals that we have defined. In Chapter 3, we defined the input state as the knowledge and skills that the student brings to the educational component and the facility with which the student can use that knowledge and those skills. What do we really need to know about our students’ input state and how do we get this information?
