ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I outline an agenda for the immediate future of the computers and writing community, one designed to direct our efforts carefully and responsibly toward positive change. The agenda emerges directly from the challenges and opportunities before us in this cyborg era, and thus emphasizes individuals, technologies, and the contexts they share simultaneously. I begin with an extended excerpt of a recent Tuesday Café about the future of the computers and writing community, inviting readers to listen to a multitude of perspectives on the future, rather than just my own or those I might cite from scholarship. Building on the Café discussion, I introduce the concept of cyborg responsibility to ground the agenda to follow.
