ABSTRACT
Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) opened its West Coast campus in September, 2002. When CMU decided to open this campus (CMW) it did so for a variety of reasons. The educational motivation was to try something experimental without spending much money. So, while it was, and is, a possibility that faculty will be appointed solely to the West Coast campus, this had not yet happened in 2002.
