ABSTRACT

It is time to rethink our basic tenets of education. We need to see education not as a process for the transmission of knowledge to children, but as a process of the opening of children's minds to the world around them. Because typically government and religion have been in charge of education, the former was always the model. Governments want citizens who follow the rules of society. Religions want students to take in and believe the basic tenets of the faith. In the modern era these can no longer be the hopes of our education system. What we need to do is enable children to think for themselves. In an ever changing and complex world, the winners will be those who can do more than recite what they were taught.

Genius, in truth, means little more than the faculty of perceiving in an unhabitual way.
