ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with the most important element in the writing process. It's important to look at our motives for wanting to write, because if they aren't strong enough we probably won't finish our screenplay. However, we may feel we have something important to say and want to share it with others. Perhaps we want to tell people about our strong feelings and beliefs through the written word. To want to be commercial or imitate former successful high concept scripts is not a good enough reason to build our story. By the time we write what we think will be a hot topic we'll already be too late. A professional writer takes the personal story and makes it dramatic. However, some writers have problems writing the personal story. Many times it is too frightening for them to express their inner emotions such as: love, hate, fear, joy, sorrow, anger or despair.
