ABSTRACT

Installing specialized computer systems in broadcast newsrooms has created employment opportunities for recent college graduates who are computer literate and comfortable with software. Most broadcast newsroom computer systems are large enough to require having at least one person on staff with advanced training to deal with system management, maintenance and security. Many broadcast newsrooms maintain Web sites on the Internet that require personnel and upkeep. Veteran newsroom employees may not have the indepth knowledge of desktop computing or the interest that is required for system and Web site management, thus creating opportunities for younger, more computer-literate journalists.
