ABSTRACT

The description of the MMPI-A scales and subscales presented thus far underscores that this instrument was intended for use in psychodiagnostic evaluations of adolescents in clinical treatment settings rather than for the description of normal adolescents’ personality functioning. In addition to evaluating psychopathology in inpatient, outpatient, and residential treatment facilities, the MMPI-A can also be utilized in evaluating adolescents in specialized settings. For example, the MMPI-A has been widely used in the assessment of adolescent substance abusers, eating disordered adolescents, and sexually abused adolescents (Archer & Krishnamurthy, 2002). Indeed, there is a substantive research literature supporting the applicability of the test instrument in these and numerous other settings (Butcher et al., 1992).
