ABSTRACT

Previous chapters presented unifying themes based on a collective analysis of all cases in the study: the types of make-believe worlds; the roles children occupied in these worlds and the wishes they had for themselves; the traces that the media used by children have left on their make-believe worlds; and finally, the overall gender differences that we detected in all four participating countries. In this final discussion of the empirical data, we concentrate not only on overall similarities, but also focus on themes of cultural differences that were identified.
