ABSTRACT
In this chapter we move from individual examples to the space of examples triggered in a learner. In the process we aim to describe some of the features of what it is like to construct an example of something. We begin by asking you to reflect on this for yourself and to engage in some tasks that we have found effective when offered to various groups of learners and colleagues. We use their reports to locate and elaborate significant aspects of example construction. In particular we find that examples are interconnected and can be perceived as members of structured “spaces,” and we begin to explore what those structures might be like.
