ABSTRACT

In 1971, nearly 60% of all full-time U.S. journalists were college graduates, and 34% had majored in journalism. 1 In 1982–1983, nearly 75% of all U.S. journalists had completed a college degree, and 40% had majored in journalism. 2 In 1992, 82% of all U.S. journalists had earned a college degree, and 39% of these had majored in journalism. 3 In 2002, 89% of all U.S. journalists had a college degree, and 36% had majored in journalism.
