ABSTRACT
In our 1992 study, we concluded that journalists then were no more likely to be female than a decade earlier, despite dramatic increases in women journalism students in U.S. universities and an emphasis on hiring more women. As we will see in this chapter, women have made some gains since 1992, but in many ways, the picture looks much the same in 2002 as it did a decade earlier.
