ABSTRACT

In the last two chapters, we discussed two main elements of the assessment center method: the types of dimensions that are appropriate for different assessment centers and the types of exercises that elicit behaviors relevant to those dimensions. In this chapter and the next, we discuss the process of evaluating behaviors to assess competence on the dimensions. This chapter describes the steps that individual assessors take to observe, classify, and evaluate behavior in separate exercises. Chapter 8 takes us beyond individual processing to discuss how the group of assessors work together to share their evaluations, determine final dimension ratings, and derive overall assessment ratings (as well as how statistical processes are used to aggregate ratings).
