ABSTRACT
The purpose of the previous chapter’s journey through time was to show two things. The first is to appreciate the multiple forms and modes of which the family is composed; the second is to appreciate that the family is also a unity that can be distinguished from other forms of social organization. Now that we know something about the water in which the family swims, it is time to cast our net and see what we can find.
