ABSTRACT
The theory of Pascual-Leone, presented in the previous chapter, adopts the Piagetian concept of scheme, but radically reinterprets the concept of stage. According to Pascual-Leone (1987) developmental stages result from increases in the capacity of the M operator, and stages are to be observed only in those tasks for which activation of the appropriate schemes is not facilitated by field effects or prior learning.
