ABSTRACT

As described in previous chapters, the neo-Piagetian theories of Pascual-Leone and Halford seek to resolve many of the challenges posed to Piaget’s developmental theory. Their resolutions retain, however, several fundamental Piagetian assumptions, including the stage conception of development and the emphasis on general processes as accounting for developmental acquisitions within different domains and areas of knowledge. Within the information processing approach, other models (see chap. 4) have been developed and are associated with research methods that track the processes enacted in an individual’s problem solving. These methods provide detailed, precise data on solution paths for specific problems.
