ABSTRACT

DNA evidence analysis is now widely accepted as a standard forensic technique for the investigation of a wide spectrum of crimes. DNA helps police link offenders to crime scenes by matching DNA profiles. The technique can also be used to eliminate suspects. The DNA evidence routinely encountered at crime scenes can often be categorized into several groups or types. Table 2.1 lists sources of DNA frequently found on personal items. Figure 2.1 and Figure 2.2 illustrate representative types of evidence processed and their success rates.
