ABSTRACT

The objective of this lesson is to provide the student with the concepts, rationale, and procedures necessary to recognize, document, collect, and compare tool mark evidence.

Tool marks can be defined as any impression, gouge, gash, slash, groove, channel, dent, indentation, hole, scrape, graze, abrasion, scratch, cut, or striation that has been made on any object, person, or thing by the application of a tool. It is important to note that a tool can be defined as any device or implement that is capable of producing the questioned marks.
