ABSTRACT

Students will learn how to align a compound microscope and set up proper illumination. Students will also learn the proper use of a compound light microscope.

The light microscope is one of the most valuable instruments in the crime laboratory. The basic transmitted light microscope is supplemented by the stereomicroscope, polarized light microscope, phase contrast microscope, and visible and infrared microspectrophotometers. In some cases these instruments are employed as the final analytical tool and in others they are used for preliminary examinations or for sample preparation.
