ABSTRACT

A Bit of History How did we get to the point of needing to engage physicians? I am not a historian, but from my perspective, I would start with the 1970s and early 1980s, when there was enough money in healthcare to allow hospitals to cater to physicians as customers. ‘e physicians practiced out of small individual or group practices, but were slowly starting to aggregate into larger groups. ‘ose who were high producers could get just about anything they wanted from the hospitals, particularly if they grouped together by specialty in larger practices.
