ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I’ll explain why I wrote the first edition of this book and introduce each of the three types of maps that I’ve included in the book.

Why I Wrote the Basics of Process Mapping At the time, (1996) I’d already been working well over a decade to help improve the results that organizations achieve from the work that their people do. As part of that work, I’d personally created custom learning materials on a variety of quality improvement tools, methods, and procedures. Many of these included “how-to” guidance and job aids.
