Introduction Society has long debated the role of a victim in violent crimes. Often, this debate has become a victim-blaming exercise. –is chapter introduces victimology concepts. One question that should be considered is why a criminal chooses to commit a violent crime against one person rather than another person-why the rapist chooses one victim and not another. –is question, however, is not intended to excuse the criminal from the consequences of his or her violent crime.
