ABSTRACT
Consider the police from a citizen’s perspective. What do citizens think is the relationship between police and crime? When citizens think of US police, they look to them as enforcers of the law. Indeed, the term law enforcement is often used in place of policing when the occupation is mentioned. ere is little doubt in the public’s mind that the purpose of the police is to do law enforcement, which means to do something about crime, especially serious crime.
