ABSTRACT
The basic principle of autrefois convict and autrefois acquit is that a person should not be tried twice for the same offence. In other words, a person should not be tried for a crime in respect of which he has already been acquitted or convicted (Connelly v DPP [1964] AC 1254; [1964] 2 All ER 401).
