ABSTRACT
The Act provides for a number of criminal offences. The relevant sections of the Act are in the following terms:
Section 2 2 Prohibition of publication of obscene matter. (1) Subject as hereinafter provided, any person who, whether for gain or
not, publishes an obscene article [or who has an obscene publication for publication for gain (whether gain to himself or gain to another)]3 shall be liable: (a) on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding £5,000 or to
imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months; (b) on conviction on indictment to a fine or to imprisonment for a term
not exceeding three years or both.
