ABSTRACT
It is necessary to distinguish land (freehold or leasehold) on the one hand from mere chattels on the other. The concept of ownership of chattels is comparatively straightforward; the concept of ownership of land, more complicated. The method of proving and transferring title differs as between land and chattels respectively; so do the formalities applicable both in relation to contract and in relation to conveyance.
