ABSTRACT

Section 58 and Annex B provide that a police superintendent or above may delay access to a solicitor for up to 36 hours if there are reasonable grounds for believing that such access would lead to: interference with or harm to evidence connected with any serious arrestable offence; interference with or physical injury to other persons; alerting other persons not yet arrested, but suspected of having committed a serious arrestable offence; or hindering the recovery of any property obtained as a result of such an offence.
