ABSTRACT

The zoo concept has remained unchanged since 1828. Typically, zoos are still arranged taxanomically. This means that visitors go to one place to see bears, then another to see monkeys, or cats or birds, or reptiles and so on. In addition, almost every zoo duplicates the same collection focusing principally on mammalian, diurnal, African, cute, pretty, social and essentially charismatic large species. Several important problems result.
