ABSTRACT
Since culture forms an important base from which assumptions are made about other citizens, if there exists a specific ‘police culture’, this culture will determine the assumptions that the police have about other citizens and will be the base from which the behaviour of other citizens is interpreted. In The Politics of the Police, R Reiner outlines certain characteristic norms and values within the police service that, when combined, help to create a distinctive police culture.
