ABSTRACT

The alternative to those citizens whose views are only based on a narrow and prejudiced set of opinions are those whose attitudes develop from a reasoned and systematic set of opinions, ideas and views. These opinions, ideas and views, when combined, develop an ideological view towards the provision of welfare. The distinction between the two sets of reactions is an important one to make because the first, characterised by ignorance and bigotry, is impossible to discuss logically or provide arguments against. The second does provide a basis for an informed discussion towards those in receipt of welfare benefits.
