ABSTRACT
The underlying context of Part 3 is the debate that has as its central focus the issue of empowerment. Empowerment of citizens is a key issue within the study of citizenship, and one issue that needs to be discussed is why some citizens have more power and influence than others. What is the role of socialisation, the process of learning society’s norms, values and culture, in the creation of differently empowered citizens? Do the media influence the degree of empowerment enjoyed by some citizens, or is it all a process of natural selection? These are the essential questions that form the backbone of Part 3.
