ABSTRACT

The use of pesticides in the growing of crops is an issue of concern for consumers because of fears about the levels of residues that are found in food products. In September 2000 the UK Working Party on Pesticide Residues (now known as the Pesticide Residues Committee) published its 1999 Report in which it indicated that almost all pesticide residues levels were well within the safety levels set by independent experts. Of the 2,500 food samples tested, using 85,000 different tests, only two47 presented any possible health risk to the public and appropriate action was swiftly taken to deal with the problem.
